Update
Hello listeners,
First, as always, thank you so much for listening to this passion project podcast. I - and every cohost of/contributor to the podcast - am extremely grateful that this tiny endeavor is being heard by people outside of our immediate friends and family.
The last few weeks has been quite chaotic and transformative for me. Several life event happened, and I had the time to reflect on how I have been spending my time. One of the conclusions I've made is that I need to be more realistic about what these podcasts are and allocate time accordingly. In 2025, I was fueled by outrage and started to pour all my free time into making podcasts, thinking I can make a difference. I split the main podcast into two channels, with episodes regularly published on both. Public Health is for Everyone had multiple series on it. I started two entirely new podcasts. I thought about doing more collaborations with other public health podcasts. After months of this and many half developed ideas, I was burning out. I think I may have been too optimistic (or delusional) with how far I can take this podcast. I had to ground myself and be sober to the reality that with my limited resources, bandwidth, and competency I simply cannot make a quality podcast with a high volume of listeners. There are journalists, podcasters, content creators much better than I am at disseminating good public health information. Who am I to think that I can be a big public health podcast? This is not the most efficient use of my time to make a meaningful difference in the world. I could be volunteering more, calling my representative more, helping unionize my work place more, reading more, editing Wikipedia more, etc.
That said, I love podcasting, especially podcasting about public health. I have the same motivation as I did when I started the podcast years ago: I would do this even if no one listens to it. Public health is beautiful, and I love talking about it. It's also an exercise in writing, which helps with thinking. I'm still going to keep doing public health podcasting, but now I am not going to burn myself out with strict publishing schedule and overly ambitious (delusional) goals. I'm going to podcast for fun again.
Here's the update to the upcoming schedule of all Everything is Public Health production:
- The Everything is Public Health show is continuing as is; that is, one episode every two weeks. This show will continue until either I die or Cass is no longer available to record the show. Note that Everything is Public Health the show (Cass and I) is not synonymous with Everything is Public Health production (just me). All social media and this website represents the production, not the show.
- Public Health is for Everyone, Death by Doctrine, and INGREDIENTS: will still continue to publish episodes, but there will no longer be any set schedule. The episodes will publish whenever they are complete.
- Hopefully, by this summer, my first attempt at an semi-video essay will be released. It will be on a podcast platform and if everything works out a video posted on some platform (still debating whether YouTube is worth getting into).
Thank you so much for listening.
Stay tuned,
MJ
