Public Health Explained - Gender Affirming Care
This episode was actually schedule for a few weeks later, but given the recent events of multiple big hospitals, even ones in blue cities/blue states, are shutting down their gender affirming care for youths I felt the need to bump this to an earlier slot. Hope at least one person finds this episode interesting.
To no one's surprise, pretty everything the conservatives claim about gender affirming care is wrong. How horrifying it is then for this current regime to weaponize their ignorance, combined with their bigotry, against trans people and trans kids. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is malice.
I know this isn't the most thorough dive into this topic. We skipped over many related topics as well, like the moral panic over trans athletes (may do an episode about this in the future). Ultimately, we wanted this episode to debunk the main myths and highlight the fact that these gender affirming care procedures are also utilized by cis-people without the same type of judgement or scrutiny placed on the trans people relying on them. This is a topic that we don't have any lived experiences with, so if we made a mistake or missed something, please let us know.
The Public Health Explained episodes are structured more loosely and indulges tangents more because that's the tone that Ava and I find the most conductive for our dynamic. I hope people aren't too bored by the non-public health digressions for the first half of these episodes. More episodes to come.
