Death by Doctrine
New podcast
A new year, a new approach to how I'm spending my free time.
The holidays was a time of reflection. Or as much as I could. I don't have all the answers figured out, and perhaps never will. One conclusion that I have settled on is how I am tired of skirting around calling out conservatives. They are bad, and we are past the point of pretending otherwise. Treating them as "normal politics" is unproductive noise and dangerous sanewashing. Now that the main podcast Everything is Public Health is stand-alone, I'm going to use the separate channels to speak a little bit more freely. One of these new space is a new podcast series Death by Doctrine, found here: https://deathbydoctrine.buzzsprout.com/
This series has been a thought of mine for a long time as it is the natural extension of all the other shows. We talk about the policy and physical things that impact our health, but what about ideas? What are the ideologies, beliefs, doctrines that people (particularly Americans) have that are harming their actual health and wellbeing?
This series was partially inspired by the book Dying of Whiteness by Metzel which is recommend everyone reading. Increasingly, we are also seeing the thesis of his book play out in real time. Racism has a cost, and some racists are finding out how their hate is coming back to bite them like Ouroboros. Fitting because hate is inherently self-consuming. The episodes were difficult to make, but I think we will find a grove with it soon. Not all episodes will be in the Public Health is for Everyone feed, so follow the Death by Doctrine podcast to catch all the episodes.
Stay tuned,
MJ
